Good guess!
B is off sick. B tells his boss. The boss then tells X (X is not a
DP Officer!) the gruesome details, although X has no need to know as
part of their job. Unaware that B's embarrassing complaint is not
public knowledge, X passes on the info to your colleagues, who of
course spread the word. When B returns to work and everyone is
nodding and winking, and making sympathetic noises, he is appalled
that the "secret" is so widely known. B takes legal action.
Unfortunately not hypothetical - luckily not in my organisiation, but
an interesting senario as it seems to me things like this happen all
the time in the work place!
Many thanks for the advice, I will look at s.55 and pass the info on.
