My understanding is that the London Embassy of a foreign country is foreign
soil, the British Embassy overseas is British soil and in the quid pro quo
of these matters we would expect the same.
As such, giving data to foreign embassies in the UK is overseas transfer. We
have a fear that handing over such data to some embassies may materially
affect the data subject. I believe that during the Iran Iraq war, UK based
students were approached to return to their home country to fight.

A query.
If information is sent to the London Embassy of a foreign country
is this making an overseas transfer?
I understand that embassies are usually regarded as the territory
of the country they represent. Are they bound by English law
including the DPA on their own premises or is an overseas
transfer made as soon as data is sent to them?
