If you are to satisfy the fair processing requirements of the first DP
Principle, you will need to have informed the policy holder that any person
whose interest is noted on the policy will be notified if the policy is
cancelled. This could be included as a clause in your company's standard
information for policy holders. If it is not already included, you could
send out revised information, say at annual renewal.
If you haven't mentioned this to the policy holder I think you should not
inform the building society, but leave it to the policy holder. It would be
a good idea to advise the policy holder that they should inform the building
society of the cancellation.
