Can I clarify - do details of criminal convictions have to be passed on
(regardless of consent) when the student is going on a placement required by
a professional body? eg healthcare professionals who have strict rules on
who may work with patients.

The only element of Schedule 3 that seems to apply here is 1: Consent. I
cannot
see how you could justify disclosing such details without consent.
