This brings the whole discussion nicely back to the reason for CCTV
installation, and how determining the purpose for any I.T. type project
occasionally becomes that muddled with management and Ppolitical enabling
ssubterfuge, that the poor old DP practitioner is seen as a threat/blockage,
simply by trying to properly understand the purpose(s), to organise
compliance with the principles. Seeing through the quotient of mist is
necessary, if the individual data subjects rights to privacy are to be
properly upheld.
Given examples quoted in this group, isolation as one context of privacy has
potentially dysfunctional consequences which themselves need a proper
understanding, being separated from the seemingly automatically engendering
empathetic (or antithetical) feelings created within social groups towards
any isolated data subject, which can compromise that facet at the personal
level, due to the overlaying of each of the social groups feelings/thoughts
into an isolated data subject. I guess it is any given social groups way
of determining the position/situation of an individual. Privacy seems to
have many twists ;-)

Given that the nation's 2nd in line to the throne now attends St Andrews, I
know plenty of London hacks who could show you the way there! I wonder if
there might be an ulterior motive in installing cameras to spy on the
students?! Not thinking of flogging footage of the young Prince dialling up
some dodgy websites to one the less reputable dailys I hope!! (Only
kidding, promise! :-)

.. I am just charging my batteries. Don't go away yet :-) (Unless it is
Saturday down the stream from us).
Charles :-)
PS. For the uninitiated St Andrews is down the road from Dundee, cross the
river, about 10 miles as the crow flies.
