It is in fact now common for books to carry the author's assertion of
his/her right to be identified as the author of the work (moral right
rather than a right to profit by it).

Another factor may be the regulations governing the degree at the
time of granting, which may have required the candidate to make their
work available in a number of ways, including allowing it to be
placed in specified library systems (hence implying
publicising??) or even copied.

I think our local registration does specifically mention our library
management system, which includes our OPAC

and also our user database - but we *don't* make that available
outside of our necessary functions - whatever they may be!
