Dear All,
The following article has appeared in my Local Paper today. I believe it has one or two Data Protection implications i.e notification requirements - no longer domestic purposes? signage? what are the thoughts of the list.
People with closed-circuit television cameras outside their homes are being urged to join forces with police to form a crimebusting network.
Officers at a Local police station are setting up a special database of people with their own CCTV cameras in order to improve detection rates.
Inspector AM is asking people who have installed cameras at their homes to get in touch so a register can be compiled to help in the fight against crime.
Footage from privately-owned security cameras has been used extensively during investigations into the deaths of schoolgirls Holly Wells, Jessica Chapman and Milly Dowler.
Officers are hoping CCTV can be used in a similar way to tackle serious crimes in the Local area if they have access to a detailed register of where video cameras were located.
Detective Constable RN said an increasing number of people had their own security cameras.
He said a record of who had the cameras could be useful to officers when serious crimes were committed.
"The number of people who have got these cameras outside their homes is amazing," said Mr N.
He urged anybody with a XYZ postcode who had a CCTV camera to ring 0121 .
