The auditors' terms of engagement probably define their remit & should
preclude fishing expeditions. Could be worth a check?
As Maurice said - you couldn't audit accounts without involving personal
data (e.g. the Director's excessive expense claims!!) so you'd render the
audit process impossible.
Your auditors also need to provide certain assurances to the Board
(corporate governance issues) & they won't be able to if they've been
hindered in the process.
I know that there has been lots of discussion on data protection in
accounting/auditing circles & would expect there to be some awareness out
there...
