Hi Metta
Your question is a corker - and I'm not surprised no-one has responded
yet. If you have received any replies off forum, I'd welcome a summary.
I've just looked through the regs for GCSE - but there's little there
that could help (apparently Foreign Language spellcheckers can only be
used for VCE Writing units - I imagine VCE is a vocational certificate?).
My assumption is that the assessment criteria for the exams are
different to those for assignments and that use of correct spelling is
regarded as vital (esp as spelling and grammar are tied tightly together
in some languages via plurals, verb form/case, etc). Having said that,
will the students be expected to be able to function without a
spellchecker after graduation? In practice, dyslexic people using a
foreign language will use the same sort of aids, workarounds as they do
when handling English text (ie word-processors, spellcheckers,
screenreaders, VR Software, etc).
I wonder how this would be regarded under the DDA.
I'm sorry not to be able to answer your question. However, perhaps
others will pick it up.
Regards
Peter Hill
