medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
A minor correction to a recent posting on "unofficial lives of St. Francis". The text edited in R. Brooke's Scripta Leonis is, in fact, not the Speculum perfectionis but rather one version (shorter and rearranged) of the larger Compilatio assisiensis, the former of which is commonly referred to as the Legenda perugina (Legend of Perugia) since found in MS 1046 (a manuscript found in Perugia though compiled in Assisi). As others have noted, a more recent English translation of the Speculum perfectionis (Mirror of Perfection) can be found in Francis of Assisi: Early Documents, Volume III.
Cheers,
Michael Cusato OFM
