What a good question.
The only place I can suggest looking, and I haven't had time to look myself,
is the annual report on what the government spends on science as a whole.
Start here:
http://www.dti.gov.uk/ost/ostbusiness/middleo6.htm
Much of the money for this area also gets "laundered" through the Royal
Society, which may have the numbers.
Do report back here if you uncover the gory details.

PS If the URL breaks on to more than one line, you will have to join the
bits together.

Subject: Expenditures on Public understanding of Science in UK
Does anyone know how much money will be spend this year (or has been spend
last year) in the UK on Public understanding of science (science
communication)? This would include expenditures of e.g. the Nuffield
foundation, the Wellcome Trust, the UK Government, etc.
Thank you in advance!
