I don't wish to sound flippant, or sexist for that matter, but it had to be
a male student didn't it?! I have many completely blind friends who cope
with ovens every day without problem. I know it sounds harsh, but that's
just something he's going to have to learn to deal with. When people first
leave home they find this sort of thing difficult at first, being blind
makes one more nervous of hurting oneself. This often means that people are
reluctant to try. It might be a good idea for him to talk to his local RNIB
person about this. His biggest problem is probably confidence, he's probably
never had to cook for himself before!
