An invitation to submit proposals From the Association of
Higher Education And Disability
AHEAD's 25th Annual Conference: Reframing Disability
July 8 - 12, 2002
Washington, D.C.
AHEAD invites proposals for its twenty-fifth annual
conference 2002. The Association provides opportunities for
professional development to those who work to assure equal
opportunities and full participation for faculty, staff and
students with disabilities in higher education.
The theme for AHEAD 2002 is "Reframing Disability"
Appropriate to a twenty-fifth anniversary, the 2002
Conference will be a time to reflect on our past travels and
plan the road ahead. It is an opportunity to re-invigorate
our conference and our work by examining how multiple
perspectives on disability (medical, student development,
civil rights, service delivery, social model...) can
illuminate our individual work and guide our collective
efforts.
Deadline for Submission: October 8, 2001
Suggested Topics for Proposals
Universal Design - Legal/Policy Issues - Disability Studies
- Transition Issues - Technology -Professional Skills
Development - Community College Concerns - Campus Life
Issues - Diversity - Best Practices In Disability Services
Special consideration will be given to proposals that
explore these questions:
* How do we encourage and increase collaborations on
and off campus, with students, faculty, and other
organizations?
* How do current trends in universal design, student
development, disabilities studies, and instructional
delivery form a context for what we do?
* How do we define and balance our various roles
within our institutions? Change agent/institutional
compliance, advocate/gate keeper, educator/service provider,
counselor/ evaluator, . . .
* How are we responding to changes in demographics,
the legal climate, and technology?
Deadline for Submission
A completed program proposal must be submitted by October 8,
2001.
