A bit of confusion here - Braille Maker is a software package which
converts the text into the various forms of contracted braille. You will
need such a package, and I suggest you also look at the Duxbury braille
translator.
The device which actually produces the hard copy is an embosser, or
braille printer. I can recommend the Index Basic single sided with
cabinet for moderate levels of production. If you are planning on
outputting hundreds of text books a year then more appropriate models
are available.
You also need to be aware that in order to use translation software well
and accurately, the operator needs to understand braille, grade 2, maths
or whatever they are using - no translation system can be 100%
automatic, and a knowledge of braille and how the particular software
package handles translation are essential for accurate translation.
Also, as many sections of text books have to be adapted rather than just
translated, a knowledge of how to do this is necessary.
Sight and sound in Northampton have been reliable suppliers for us.
Hope this helps,
Adrian
