There are many benefits in administering PCs via this product, for
example centralised control of software installation, but the
remote viewing facility provides a technical means of staff
surveillance which may be cause for concern.
What should staff be told about its adoption? Introducing the product would
only be practical if it was for all PCs so how could objections from a few
people be accomodated? >>

Take care with the introduction of this product.
You will need to consider the Data Protection implications, such as reading
private e-mails as they are typed (assuming you allow private use of e-mail)
and seeing details of other people (staff, clients, etc) that the IT staff
would not normally have access to.
You will also need to consider the restrictions under the RIPA, and it is not
just a matter of informing staff and their e-mail contacts, there are other
requirements.
You will also need to consider the Health and Safety (Display Screen
Equipment) Regulations that govern the monitoring of staff performance on
computers.
You will also need to consider the Human Rights Act.
If there is a single objection you will need to establish a very strong legal
argument to override that person's rights such as suspecting them of illegal
activity.
Yes, I am aware of the fact that call centres do this sort of thing all the
time but does that make it legal, right and proper?
There are other products available for restricting or controlling the
installation of software which operate by blocking the installation without a
valid password issued by IT staff.
