Irene - data processing for "artistic purposes" is exempt from section 7
(subjects access), 10 (right to block processing causing damage and distress),
12 (manual intervention regarding automatic decisions) and 14 (rectification of
inaccurate data etc). Exemption is also allowed from all the DP Principles,
except seven (relating to security). Furthermore you're surely not the data
controller here, even if you feel somewhat culpable.
So, my interpretation here is that DP does not apply. To forestall any
complaints it might be good PR to write to all the "victims" explaining what
has happened and apologising for any potential distress but even that may be
rather over the top as the chances of anyone complaining are small.
If I were you, I'd let sleeping dogs lie (though not on the floor covering,
obviously, as this might spoil the artwork).
