Try the RIPA (Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act).
The Commissioners guidance on the use of personal data in employee/employer
relationships is still being formulated and will not be out for some months
yet.
However the Central IT Unit has a useful website look on

DJ Freeman's site also looks at legal issues concerning e-mail
