We are amongst the sample of institutions whose First Destinations return is being audited next month. When producing the original return we, in common with a number of other Scottish HEIs, refused to provide the personal data which was requested (albeit for a very few students) for the planned telephone pilot survey, on the grounds that giving it would contravene DP provisions.
However, the auditors (assigned by the funding council) are now asking us for the name, home address and telephone number of EVERY student who appears in the FDS return so that they can select a sample for a telephone follow up. As we refused to give this information before, we aren't keen to give it now - particularly for a now much larger number of students!
Can other institutions, particularly those in the imminent round of audits, let me know how they are dealing/would deal with this? I suppose one way around it would be to contact each of the students and ask for their permission, but given the numbers involved, and the fact that the auditors want the information within ten days, this isnt really a feasible option.
Thanks!
Helen
