I am confused by some of the phrases used in this clause and how they are
applied and would be grateful for any advices.
NOP have requested a database that identifies inddividuals, claiming they
are peforming a survey on behalf of a government department.
The information would provide name, address, postcode and telephone number.
Legally, is a Survey the same as or part of "research purposes" under
clause 33.
Also what does clause 33(a) "that the data are not processed to support
measures or decisions with respect tp particular individuals" mean. Is it
that nothing should reflect back on any indiviual and any outcomes from the
processing should apply to the entire group.
I find it a strange instance that an organisation can phone up, say that
they are performing a survey and request files of personal data. My first
inclinations are always to say no until they have provided some proof and
explanation.
How does anyone check that the information will used in the way clause 33
describes or is it back to the odd maxim " if you don't trust them, don't
disclose to them".
What measures would you advise should be taken and would you be willing to
release identification personal details to such "Research" organisations?
Thanks
Roger Glover.
