Signs for CCTV cameras under the First Principle - advising data subjects of
your identity, purposes, etc are only necessary if they are to be used for
purposes other than crime detection and prevention (an exemption would apply
if solely for that purpose).
If your bosses want the signs taken down tell them the images could not then
be used for civil reasons including Disorder, contract compliance, fee
avoidance (car parks, etc), non-attendance, or whatever. The use would have
to be restricted and of course as ALL the images are for crime
detection/prevention the tapes are sensitive data and should be treated as
such - high security, limited access, etc.
