The statement we are currently using on enrolment is:
"Data protection: Kingston University will process your details
on its database for the purposes of administering your education,
associated financial matters, use of the University facilities
and where appropriate, accommodation. Some information on this
form will be sent to the Higher Education Statistics Agency
(HESA), Government Education Departments, Funding Councils,
Kingston University Student Union (KUSU) and similar
organisations. The University has a duty to protect public funds
from fraud and may use the information you have provided on this
form for verification with other authorised public bodies for the
purpose of detecting or preventing a crime. The University will
retain your records after you have graduated for the purpose of
maintaining contact and sending details of activities which we
think may be of interest to you. If you do not wish your details
to be retained for this purpose please tick this box .... "
It is recognised that this is not perfect and I am still trying
to encapsulate what is needed within a pithy, uncomplicated
declaration. The question of sensitive data elements also
particularly concerns me. Clearly we do not want one or more
sides of A4 or it will never be read but if it is too brief we
risk breaching the Act ........
Any comments welcome.
