Thanks to all for responses.
I attended a presentation today in Norwich given by a member of the
Commissioners compliance staff
He confirmed that this new communication directive is that referred to as
'new telecommunication issues'
The legislative objective appears to be to try to improve clarity of the
1999 regulations. E.g. define a call in email terms. The 'pre lobby' intent
of this directive is clearly to make internet or voice communication defined
as a 'call'. Interestingly this was the intent 'pre lobby' of the former
ISDN directive before it became the telecommunications directive. Looks like
the Internet/data lobbyists will have to start over again. Who will win this
time consumer or business? Place your bets.

Dave,
The EU intend replacing the Diercive 97/66 EC wihc currently underpins the
Telecommunications (Data Protection and Privacy)Regulations 1999 with a new
privacy directive designed to reguate the processing of personal data in the
'electorinci communications sector'. The proposed diective has its second
reading in the EU Parliament in the next week. The Directive is likely to
come into effect in 18-24 minths time.

Subject: Telecoms Regs
I notice from advertising on a recent seminar a speakers topic billed as the
'new telecoms regs'.
Does anyone know of anything new here or is it that we have hit final dates
of implementation of the 1999 regs.
Any hints appreciated.
