Surely if we have to give any info. it should be only about students living
in University halls of residence (and may be those in private rented
accomodation where the institution is linked with the landlord). The rest
are private citizens, adults and up to them whether they choose to register
or not. I did not think registration on the electoral roll was compulsory,
esp. when you can find all sorts of details from it plastered on the WWW.
Further, they could be registered in their permanent place of residence.
Even further, you have to disclose nationality in order to decide the voting
rights of the person. Ehhmmm, we know nationality from the normal student
details we hold. Is nationality borderline sensitive personal data?
