As one of the few fully qualified PNC users/Trainers/administrators of the
list I find it hard to believe that people don't trust the system, that is
adequately protected and administered :) (note the sarcasm).
In retrospective the PNC is full of holes and problems, (particularly when
you consider the update/verification processes utilised), but it is the best
the Police have. I do not think that the system could possibly meet the
requirements of the DPA - in its current state or after this add on. By the
way is the PNC notified???

This is an interesting statement. The PNC is also an entirely legitimate
database, except a very large number of its records contain inaccuracies
(Principle 4), the data are often misused (P2, 6, 7) and the problems have
been exhaustively discussed with the OIC. Experian do not have a
trouble-free record with their entirely legitimate credit reference
database,
either. The insurance database is connected to the PNC and so when
discrepancies arise the processing may well be unfair (P1).
The forthcoming Criminal Records Bureau has been delayed again due to
problems involving the PNC - perhaps the insurance database connection
should
also have been held back until the problems are resolved.
But hey, Peter, why did you question this? My mate Dave would say "if
you've
nothing to hide, you've nothing to fear." Home Office Minister Bob
Ainsworth
said: "The only people who will not see it as good news are the
irresponsible
cheats who refuse to pay for motor insurance. They can be certain that their
chances of being caught and prosecuted have greatly increased."
Insurance companies should have informed all motor policy holders by now
that
their details have been (or will be for new customers) made available to the
police and other insurers - if you have not received such a notification,
complain directly to your insurer in the first instance.
