Talk again to your IT people. Make it available via customer's websites
sounds as if you will upload all your data at the customer's website in which
case you cannot do anything about it.

On the techie side that is the correct approach, moreover, you should make it
accessible through a secure server etc.
It may be possible that you can do the job on an opt out basis, after
sufficient warning has been given to your staff and they are invited to opt
out. (Now I will be killed for saying that).
