INTERVIEW WARNING
JOB applicants now have the right to demand a copy of an employer's notes of
interviews under data protection legislation.
Some employers could face legal claims if comments about a candidate are
deemed unsuitable.
The right of access is available under data protection law that came into
force at the end of last month. Now the Office of the Information
Commissioner, the data protection watchdog, is issuing a code warning
employers of the risks.
Applicants will be entitled to receive access to interview notes, presuming
they contain personal data which relate to them, and employers who refuse
will be liable to criminal sanctions.
Business leaders said this would make it harder for interviewers to give
honest assessments.
Unhappy jobseekers can pursue claims with lawyers if they feel employers
have not handled personal information fairly.
