KIT said,"But hey, Peter, why did you question this?"
Was asked to comment ( by a quite well-trained DP-aware manager!) on one of the terms and conditions imposed by our insurers which stated that :
"It is a condition of taking out your policy that you give your
consent to having information supplied by you passed onto IDS
Limited and ABI so it can be put on the register and made
available to other insurers. It is also a condition that you agree in
response to any searches they may make in connection with any
claims you have made in the past or may make in the future that
IDS Limited and ABI may supply information it has received from
other insurers about claims you have made. "
Had to think of the implications (from a Uni perspective) about drawing it to the attention of registered Uni drivers (of which I'm one). Done a bit of digging and discovered it is a condition set by EVERY insurance company. Also thought, what constitutes "consent freely given"? Is there likely to be sensitive data requiring explicit consent? etc.
Wondered what the panel thought. Totally reassured however that it is an entirely legitimate database with all operational details exhaustively discussed with the OIC.
Peter
P.S. Personally I'm FOR anything which reduces my insurance bill. Obviously that all savings made will be ploughed back by way of reduced premiums!!
