I have formally joined this discussion group after many years of looking at
it over the shoulders of my colleagues. Barry has asked me for an
introduction.
So, hello to all "old" friends - there is something you may not know about
me below.
And hello to those that I do not know - this is me...
I have a research interest in the higher education learning environment,
particularly how aspects of it relate to the quality of student learning
outcomes. My current research (with Elaine Martin, Paul Ramsden and Mike
Prosser) is on university teachers' understanding of their subject matter
and their approach to teaching. I am also working on the scholarship of
teaching and on both experience of variation and variation in experience.
>From August this year I am moving to the University of Oxford as a
Principal Research Fellow in the new Institute for the Advancement of
University Learning. In the UK I am hoping to (a) continue with student
learning related research (though with more of a UK/Oxford focus), (b)
pursue a growing passion in art, design and communication, (c) contribute
to the growth in the UK of the new and old phenomenographies, and (d)
(possibly) say and seek more on this listserv (or at least see it on my own
computer).
