NETWORKING NOTETAKING - Friday 9th June 2000 at
The University of Westminster, 309 Regent Street, London W1R 8AL
_____________________________________________________

The past decade has seen a growing requirement for professional
notetakers to work with students with disabilities. Recent changes to
disabilities funding for students in higher education mean that the
demand is set to rocket, particularly in growth areas such as sciences
and IT. Deaf students and students with other disabilities who cannot
produce their own notes are disadvantaged in lectures, seminars and
tutorials. However, with a professional notetaker they can gain equal
access to important learning information and materials.

The University of Westminster has received HEFCE funding to work with
The City Lit Centre for Deaf People to develop a programme to train
notetakers to work all over London in a groundbreaking three-year
project.

The project also aims to develop a robust network, across the capital
and beyond, to enable students to find the right notetaker and vice
versa. With the support of all the major universities in the Greater
London area the project expects to involve local Disability Officers
and Careers Services to work together to identify potential notetaker
trainees within HEIs.

Networking Notetaking invites Disability Officers and advisors within
the Careers Services to the University of Westminster on 9th June 2000
to hear more about the project.

There is no cost for the above but it would be helpful to have some
idea of how many to cater for, therefore if you would like to attend
please inform:

Eileen McCabe, Project Manager -

If you require an interpreter or have any other needs for the day then
please let us know before 21st May 2000 to allow sufficient time to
make those arrangements.
