Scarman House Conference Centre, Coventry
This is a yearly event aimed at staff working with disabled students in
higher education. This year the conference will provide an opportunity to
prepare for changing legislation.
Delegates will arrive on Monday 4 December for either optional afternoon
special interest meetings or in the evening for the conference dinner. The
conference on Tuesday 5 December will start with the keynote speech by
Baroness Tessa Blackstone, Minister for Education and Employment in the
Lords. Discussion groups during the morning will provide delegates with an
exciting chance to participate in facilitated discussions on the new SEN and
Disability Rights in Education Bill. Groups will then have the unique
opportunity to feedback their comments and concerns to the Bill team in the
afternoon plenary and hear their responses.

Elective workshops include sessions on employing support workers; making use
of weighted/premium funding; confidentiality, disclosure and use of
databases; experience of QAA audit; making staff development work; students
with mental health difficulties; improving notetaking provision; and DSAs,
postgraduates and part-timers - dealing with increasing workloads.
