St.John,
I would really like to know what the average DSA turn around time per
month actually is as many of our 'dyslexic assessment' students ask
us how long the waiting list is in different NFAC centre.
Sometimes it is possible to recommend a NFAC centre - otherwise CCs
have home favourites or we do them.
We concern ourselves mainly with psychometric assessments, for which
there is normally a huge urgency - not least because dyslexics tend
to put things off until the last moment. Hence, our maximum
report turn-around time is three weeks and our maximum appointment
waiting time, the same. This is our 'worst possible delay' time.
Actually, we nearly always deliver the completed report within 10
days of an enquiry.
Having said this, nearly all of our DSA assessments are for specific
learning difficulties - for which we are expert, having in-house
Chartered Psychologists to consult so recommendation research is
on-going and constantly updated.
Standardisation of some aspects of DSA service would be a very good
thing, as long as the standard did not compromise the quality of the
service. Some LEAs certainly seem more interested in the process
than the students - but that's human nature and very much up
Festinger's 'Cognitive Dissonance' street (OK, we know he's outdated
academically but we find him VERY useful in practice.).
