I'm sitting here in the ACCESS Centre discussing problems of
delivery with a supplier we often use. We have a system which
works extremely well for most, in that equipment is delivered and
set up rather than a box arriving on the doorstep, and a good
aftercare and support service is included. We can, when working
with "local" LEAs, speed up the funding by offering the student the
the option of signing a third party release form and the LEA pays
for the equipment direct. This cuts the waiting time down
considerably and reduces the likelihood of less than honest claims!
However, we have experienced occasional problems with students
who change their mind after they have received the equipment
[which was, of course, researched and discussed thoroughly before
being included in the report - we also require the student to sign a
"go ahead" form when they have received their copy of the report to
confirm they are happy with the report recommendations before it
is sent to the LEA for action].
On balance, however, we have found the system works well. It
certainly beats students ordering kit themselves and being
reimbursed, in our experience.
