There is quite a significant variation in the amplification of different
stethoscopes, in the Littman range the 'cardiology III' stethoscope has much
better amplification than a 'classic II' which is pretty much the standard.
There are new digital stethoscopes that were introduced last year, no
personal experience of these, but the principle behind them seems ideal for
a medic withh hearing impairment. I had difficulty hearing heart sounds etc
with my Littman Classic but it's not so bad with a cardiology III, it might
be an idea for the student to try out different stethoscopes, maybe ask
around at the hospital, to see which is best. A good medical supplier, Kays
Medical etc, will have a good selection to try in their shops, this will
probably be the best way of finding a suitable one.
Hope this helps
