Summarising the many responses (thanks), the bottom line is:
Until the Representation Of The People Act 1983 changes, use the electoral
role for DM, only remember to give the 'voters' some fair processing
information within the "relevant time" (some just small enough 'small print'
at the bottom of my advertising message), and ignore MPS because it's costly
(time/money) and not legally required.
Better yet, if this is processing under way, use the exemptions to avoid the
need to give out FPI, which clearly dilutes your advertising message ;))
