Dear list members,
I wonder if anyone on the list can point me in the direction
of any resources that would tell me what sort of information
is caught by Section 34 of the DPA, which states that personal
data are exempt from some of the requirements of the Act if
the data controller is obliged 'by or under enactment' to make
it available to the public.
At two of the recent JISC Assist events that I attended there
was some discussion of this point with reference to University
statutes and the info that an institution is obliged to publish,
which included (I think) such things as List of Governors,
Senior staff member salaries, .... (and much more?). Can anyone
come up with a general list of the sorts of things (personal data)
they know their own institution is obliged to publish?
Also, as far as local authorities and other governmental bodies
are concerned, does anyone know what sorts of *personal* data they
are currently obliged to publish? I assume that this would include
a list of Elected Members with the wards/constituencies they
represent, but does it go further than that? (I know about the
House of Commons' "Register of Members' Interests"). Is there a
helpful summary list somewhere?
Thank you in advance for your help on these matters.
Best wishes,
Adrian
