With reference to Maria Comerford's question about Inland Revenue forms,
and assurances to possible supporters, I think it raises an
interesting/useful issue for all of us.
While the IR might well say that the purpose is obvious (and from one angle
it is), as a "consumer" I would be very much comforted by such a note! It
also shows that Save the Children (or whoever) is up to speed with the
thrust of the legislation - maybe a note like "Under the terms of the DPA
98 ..." would ram it home.
So while it may be the case that such a para is not *needed* it can surely
do not harm. And the model Maria suggests seems (to me, at least) to be
simple and reassuring. I have been thinking of ways of adding to all the
forms and info which we send out from our office, and have been working on
the lines that a simple covering statement of purpose cannot hurt - better
to say it than to remain silent (especially in this case, where the
charity stands to gain so much!)
