Sally,
I too did a double-take this morning re the 11 Feb meeting. I have assumed
that it is a chance for those in London on 10th to stay over and get a double
helping. This would in many ways be interesting, and the concept is
good, but it raises a couple of points in my mind:
1 For those of us coming from a long distance (and getting "cheap" air
fares only by booking in advance) it can be irritating to have short-term
initiatives like this advertised after bookings have been made.
2 At least the latest meeting is a roadshow going to outposts like
Scotland, Wales and Loughborough (sorry!). This does give a chance to catch up
- especially in light of (1) above - but if the new Act is coming into force
on 1 March can I take it from the organisers that nothing will "go off"
between 11 Feb and the March/April dates which are mentioned?
My own position is that I am looking after a new project based on our
Communications/Information policy at Aberdeen, and the DPA is obviously
a vital component. I had been planning to have policy statements in place
and all staff notified in advance of 1 March. It would be reassuring to
know that there is no obvious disadvantage in being at the later meetings.
Thanks,
Trevor Field.
