And it says, inter alia,
"From today, under the terms of the 1998 Data Protection Act, it is an
offence for companies to distribute personal details of their employees or
staff outside the EU, without explicit written consent. The laws are
intended to protect personal data against sale to third parties, but they
pose problems for companies with a multi-national payroll."
A good example of how it pays to take what you read in the press with a
large pinch of salt! Over the last few months I've read a lot, particularly
in the IT press, which betrays how little the authors actually know about
the DPA and associated issues. There was a double-page spread in (I think)
"Personnel Today" some time ago which contained a good deal of inaccuracy.
