It was the Association of Colleges that produced it, and the CVCP decided to
adopt this to send to universities rather than write its own version. It's called
'Data Protection in the Education Sector: a Guide for Good Practice'. (ISBN 0
9535092 06.) I believe the CVCP sent at least 1 copy to all HEIs sometime last
year, but additional copies could be bought for [I think] £8 each. Telephone no.
of the Association of Colleges is 0171 827 4600.
Please note however, that at one of the discussion groups at the JISC conference
on 11th Feb we did note a couple of things which appeared to be ambiguous/wrong
in the AoC guidance e.g. guidance on describing information as 'public' didn't
seem to be accurate. And of course it was published several months ago now, so
might not have taken into account recently published secondary legislation. But
it's definitely a good starting point and worth investing in.

| I recently attended a JISC course on the new DP Act. I was told there is a
| model guide somewhere which would be useful in planning what we should do at
| CSSD. I think someone said the Association of Colleges, but I can't find
| anything on the web.
|
| Many thanks
