We have just finished writting a draft statement on DP (by committee). The
intention is to use it for our incoming and maybe existing students.
Comments please. Feel free to hammer it. If there are any volunteers
please send me samples of what you do.
Don't copy it for your own use unless comments about it are made publicly so
you become aware of what may be wrong with it. Better ask me to tell you
what is the feedback we get.
Matriculation and Data Protection

Introduction
============
Under the Data Protection Act 1998 we must seek your consent in order to
hold personal and/or sensitive information about you for the purpose of being
a student. The Act defines personal data as data which can identify a living
individual, for example, name, address, qualifications, previous school etc.
Sensitive personal data are defined as racial/ethnic origin, political
opinions, religious or similar beliefs, trade union membership, physical or
mental health or condition, sexual life, offences and proceedings (alleged or
established).
If you want to know what information is held about you in the student record
system, you may write to the Registry, University of Dundee, 1 Airlie Place,
Dundee, DD1 4HN.
Processing

I understand that information is supplied to the University of Dundee on my
application form, also by UCAS and/or by other agencies, referees, and by me
at matriculation or registration. This information may be personal or
sensitive personal data. I understand and accept that processing these data
by the University of Dundee:
- is regulated by the Data Protection Act 1998;
- is for academic and administrative purposes connected with my application
and with my being a student, and that the data
- may be used for statistical analysis and monitoring by the University, and
- may be used under the University's obligation to return data to
government and its funding and other agencies, for example, to the
Scottish Higher Education Funding Council, students' Local Education
Authority or funding bodies, the Scottish Office, the Student Loans
Company, and the Higher Education Statistics Agency etc.
- I also consent to the processing of this data in terms of the right to
privacy under the Human Rights Act 1998.
