Others more experienced please help. We are under an obligation from
the DOH (but not statutory as far as anyone is aware) to collect the
ethnic origin of all inpatients. This data is then passed to the local
health authority who analyse and use for Health Action Zone purposes on
behalf on the DOH. The Trust does not use this information. I am
concerned that we could be breaching principles One and Four.
Principle one because no matter how good training is, some people asking
the question won't properly explain the reasons why we are collecting
it. Principle four because the Trust is not using the Data, we are
collecting it on behalf of the Health Authority for their own uses.
My own feeling is that we should not be collecting this data until the
Trust itself is using it. However we will need to convince the Health
Authority of this. All comments welcome.
