In response to Jane Hopkinson's note (and Andrew Charlesworth's draft re NOK),
I entirely take/accept the point that there are compassionate, human reasons
for going beyond the strict logic of the DPA - and AC's guidelines do express
this. I like the advice that HEIs will be "acting within the spirit of the law
if..." and so on.
One other small point about the draft guidelines, and which affects other
questions too - Andrew suggests telling people "on the collection form", and
that is sensible/ideal. But there are here two things to add to the form.
When one starts to multiply this out (for example, the hugely expanding
enrolment forms produced by HEIs all over the country), there are some large
stationery-related problems as new forms are printed. Since so many things are
in a state of flux I'm finding it easier to send one extra sheet with all
known/presently relevant info to cover various paperwork in the enclosure.
