have you seen Catherine Rayner's Data Protection in the Education Sector: a
Guide to Good Practice, published by the Association of Colleges in 1998? It
includes a model schedule covering student and staff records as well as
useful general guidance.
As an additional point we have been in discussion with ODPC about retention
of personal data as archives or potential archives and found them
sympathetic to what records managers and archivists are seeking to do. It is
a matter of ensuring that one acts fairly and lawfully - which of course is
where the detail starts ....
