I have read the mailings on photographs on my return from hols and would make
the following comments:
In my previous job in a local authority an issue arose when the local press
(at the behest of one of our schools) published a photograph of three school
children on the front page of their local newspaper.
One of the children was subject to a court order forbidding access of one
parent - the paper printed the child's name, other personal details, school
name and a clear physical description (the photo) providing the parent with
ample detail for an attempt at abduction.
The solution was expensive. The child's appearance was changed and the child
was moved to another area and another school. Following the incident (and
the press code of practice which says parental consent is required for
publication of photographs of children under 15) all the schools ensured
consent was obtained before photographs were published.
Not all photographs are intended for publication, but better to learn from
the mistakes of others, perhaps?
