I've spent much of my adult life either studying in an HEI or advising students. I think the apologies about relevance and the character of the list are overdone. I have only anecdotal evidence (what other kind exists yet?) but enough of it to believe that many academic institutions haven't really got the point of the DPA and are waiting for someone else to work out what they ought to be doing. There are people in small pockets of awareness (some contributing regularly to this list) but also a lot of inertia. Although some of the points on the list may not apply to HEIs and there are also issues in HEIs that don't necessarily apply to most organisations, there is an enormous amount of crossover. For example, the provisions about exam scripts and marks are defined so that there are also plenty of possibilities for their application in more commercial settings. The interests of HEIs and people going about their normal business within them are not just about closely defined aca!
demic issues and don't stop at the doors either. One example of both is use of CCTV which may pick up members of the public.
Occasionally contributions have become too maverick or personal, but I've read a lot that's close to my work, and not only because I give advice about 'outside' issues. If people working in HEIs think there's not enough about issues directly connected to their work, time to post some!
