Richard: Have you got answers re. your Americas map, yet? We have maps
of several continents incl. N. America (4 sheets, 44 x 56 cm or smaller)
constructed as you describe but by J.B.B. d'Anville, 'improved by Mr
Bolton' and publ. in London 1752. Ours are folded in a commercial
dictionary. Full information avail. if you feel they could be a previous
generation of yours.

>I hope someone can help me to identify the origin of a large map made up
>from several smaller engraved sections covering both North and South
>America. It could be compiled from atlas plates, but the small title in the
>Atlantic on one section only suggests otherwise; "A map of the Americas. By
>A. Arrowsmith. 1804". The location of any other copies to compare it with
>would be useful. Any information welcome!
