Moira (and others who kindly responded to my request):
I had seen the map only fleetingly, and the details were unfortunately
misquoted to me later - I find in fact that it is Aaron Arrowsmith's four
sheet MAP OF AMERICA 1804, which is I think fairly well known. My apologies
to all who searched in vain under the erroneous title. Richard

Richard: Have you got answers re. your Americas map, yet? We have maps
of several continents incl. N. America (4 sheets, 44 x 56 cm or smaller)
constructed as you describe but by J.B.B. d'Anville, 'improved by Mr
Bolton' and publ. in London 1752. Ours are folded in a commercial
dictionary. Full information avail. if you feel they could be a previous
generation of yours.
