Second International Conference
on Decision Making
in Urban and Civil Engineering
October 9-11 2000 - Lyon, France
Organised by
INSA Lyon (Fr)
ESIGEC Chamb‚ry (Fr)
ENTPE Vaulx en Velin (Fr)
ETS Montr‚al (Ca)
In collaboration with
CUST Clermont-Ferrand
LIP6 Paris
Universit‚ de Valenciennes
Objectives:
The purpose of the conference is to promote discussion and mutual
interaction between members of the urban and civil engineering
community, who are interested in the possibilities, but also by the
problems generated by new decision making tools and methods. Various
domains of urban and civil engineering are concerned such as
construction, building, architecture, public works, infrastructure,
urban planning, transportation, water management, environment, and so
on.
In this conference, decision making will be considered both
through methodological aspects and adapted tools. These tools and
methods can be: ranking and decision making methods, multicriteria
analysis methods, decision support systems, knowledge based systems,
geographical information systems, virtual reality systems, applied
computer vision, support systems for interactive design, cooperation
between systems, metadata, organizational memories, robotics,
concurrent engineering...
Even though civil engineering and decision
making domains have been connected since several years, the matter of a
relevant level of integration is today asked with a great acuity. In
fact, the civil engineering community is facing important questions
such as environmental effects and sustainable development, which must
not hide medium term development with its difficulties of analyses and
forecasts. The great number of works and technical systems built in
the past needs some complements in terms of management, operation and
maintenance. The notions of impact, life cycle, knowledge and
know-how, best practices, care principle, with its flexibility and
reversibility notions, involve new decision criteria which must take
into account uncertainty, data inadequacy and history deficiency of
service.
These questions related to civil engineering field ask existing and
future tools, and methods of decision making field on their ability to
integrate the previous notions as well as the consideration of
different scales of time and space.
This second conference is expected to bring structured answers to those
problems.
Previous conference :
ETS - Montreal, Quebec, Canada - October, 11-13, 1998
Call for papers:
The conference wants to be a favorable place, moment or way to exchange
new ideas. We hope that these ideas will be the basis for new research
projects, but also will have a great impact in the civil engineering
community involved in decision making applications.
Original papers are requested. They will concern design case studies,
development studies, applications of decision making methods or tools
in urban and civil engineering.
Critical analysis and experiment feedbacks are also specially
requested. Even though the conference focuses on technical aspects, it
does not exclude papers with socioeconomicals dimensions. Authors are
invited to submit as soon as possible an extended abstract to the
conference secretariat. The abstract should be no longer than three or
four pages and submitted preferably electronically (Microsoft Word
file). Abstracts, and also final papers, will be examined by two
reviewers chosen for their competence. The notification decision will
be taken by scientific committee.
Proceedings:
The accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings and
made available to all delegates at the conference.
Contacts have been establish with the following reviews for the edition
of special issues, or for the publication of a selection of best
papers:
- Journal of Decision Systems
- Computer Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering
- Urban Water Journal
- Computer Environment and Urban Systems
Important deadlines:
Submission of abstracts January 21, 2000
Acceptance of abstracts March 17, 2000
Receipt of full papers May 31, 2000
Final notification July 7, 2000
Conference starts October 9, 2000
Official language:
Papers can be submitted in French or in English. The conference
language will only be English. No simultaneous translation will be
provided.
