Professor and Head
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
The University of Alabama
The University of Alabama, Department of Civil and Environmental
Engineering, invites applications and nominations for the position of
department head. We seek a dynamic and resourceful leader with
a strong record of teaching, sholarship and outreach
commensurate with a tenured appointment at the rank of professor.
Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in civil and/or
environmental engineering. Preference will be given to candidates
with an undergraduate degree from an ABET-accredited or
equivalent institution, and to candidates who are professionally
licensed. Candidates must have the leadership required to
administer a highly visible and rigorous research and instructional
program.
The department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in civil
engineering; and an M.S.E. degree in environmental engineering.
The department has a total of 14 faculty members, including an
endowed chairholder in mining engineering. The departmental
atmosphere is one of remarkable collegiality and cooperation.
Faculty specialize in the traditional civil engineering areas of
environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation, and water
resources engineering; and in mining engineering. The department
is the home of the USDOT-funded University Transportation Center
for Alabama, which is expected to become a focal point for
departmental research in the future. Current research contracts
are in excess of $3.5 million.
