I quite agree with Thomas Izbicki's comment : whether or not the
confessor was predominant in the writing process has to be carefully
established for every text. I, for one, think it is assumed far too
easily that religious women and their writing were dominated by men.
Books that are very illuminating on the topic are :
Peters, Ursula : Religiose Erfahrung als Literarisches Faktum. Zur
Vorgeschichte und Genese Frauenmystischer Texte des 13. und 14.
Jahrhunderts. (can't remember who it was published by, and I do not
have the reference with me)
and a book that was 'advertised' on the list earlier this year :
Jaron Lewis, Gertrud : By Women, For Women, About Women. The Sister
Books of Fourteenth Century Germany. Toronto : Pontifical Institute
of Medieval Studies (1996).
